Fixed Rope Route

Via Ferrata Piz Trovat

The 3,146m summit of Piz Trovat is very close to the Berghaus Diavolezza hostel. The approach to the climb takes about 20 minutes on foot once you’ve reached the top station on the Diavolezza mountain railway. The route itself takes you via the western pillar, over a small gully and up the south face to the summit.

The climb follows the WNW pillar to a height of just under 3,000m. At this height, you cross a ledge, then descend into a small gully. You can cross the narrow gully at great height using a rope bridge. Then comes the crux: a near-vertical wall which tops out into flatter slabs towards the summit. This climb is a good 250 metres in height and around 500 metres in length: ideal for intermediate to good mountaineers. Reckon on about two hours for the climb.

From the end of the climb on the summit of Piz Trovat, an existing path takes you down from the summit to meet the track between Fuorcla Trovat and Diavolezza. It takes about 30 minutes to walk this route. The descent from 3,146m will take you north-east. The path has a steel cable for assistance on the steeper sections.
